Special Meeting to Exceed Levy Limit Resolution, Budget Hearing, Special Meeting to Approve Levy & Emergency Services: TOWN OF LEON SPECIAL MEETING RESOLUTION TO APPROVE EXCEEDING THE LEVY LIMIT FOR THE 2025 BUDGET WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2024 NOTICE OF SPECIAL TOWN MEETING OF ELECTORS* Notice is hereby given that on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 6:00 pm, at the Leon Town Hall, 8108 Jackrabbit Ave, Sparta, Wisconsin, a special meeting to approve exceeding the calculated levy by 28.6% which is $57,338.00 on the proposed 2025 budget of the Town of Leon, Monroe County, will be held.  This increase will be used to complete road projects that were removed from in the 2024 Budget due to budgetary limits, specifically reconstruction and seal coat maintenance to maintain the integrity of the roads in the Town of Leon.  The proposed budget in detail is available for inspection by appointment at the clerk’s office by calling 608-487-1964.  RESOLUTION OF TOWN BOARD PROPOSING TO EXCEED LEVY LIMIT VIA TOWN MEETING   Town of LEON_,  MONROE County Resolution No. __2024.11.13 Whereas, the State of Wisconsin has imposed levy limits on town, village, city, and county levies for 2024 and thereafter under Wis. Stat. § 66.0602; Whereas, Wis. Stat. § 66.0602 limits the allowable local levy for 2024 to a percentage increase of no more than the greater of (a) zero percent of the 2023 payable 2024 adjusted actual levy as calculated under the state’s levy limit law* or (b) a percentage equal to the percent change in equalized value due to net new construction less improvements removed, which for the Town of Leon is 0.598%. Whereas, the town board of the Town of Leon,  Monroe County, believes that for the 2024 tax levy (to be collected in 2025) it is in the town’s best interest to exceed the state levy limit as described above by a greater percentage than 0.589% Whereas, the Town of Leon’s 2023 payable 2024 adjusted actual tax levy was $ 199,082.00, and further whereas the state law would limit this year’s increase to $1565.00, for a total allowable town tax levy after adjustments for 2024 (to be collected in 2025) of $200,647.00;             THEREFORE, the town board of the Town of Leon, Monroe County does hereby resolve and order as follows: The town board supports an increase in the town tax levy for 2024 that will exceed the amount allowed by the state levy limit. PUBLIC NOTICE of SPRING PRIMARY ELECTION TOWN OF LEON

 

Notice is hereby given that a Spring Election will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 in the Leon Town Hall, 8108 Jackrabbit Ave., Sparta from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The polling place is accessible to elderly and disabled voters.  At the close of voting on Election Day, pursuant to the provisions of Wis. Stat. 19.84, the Election Inspectors will convene as the Local Canvassing Board for the purpose of conducting the local canvass pursuant to Wis. Stat. 7.51. This meeting will be open to the public pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.81-89.

 

PUBLIC NOTICE of PUBLIC TEST OF VOTING MACHINE AND

IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING

Pursuant to Wisconsin Statue 5.84(1) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Town of Leon will hold a public test of the electronic voting equipment at the Leon Town Hall, 8108 Jackrabbit Ave. Sparta, on Wednesday March 27, 2024 from 5-7pm. The test is open to the public and is being conducted for the Spring Election on April 2, 2024.

 

Voting an absentee ballot in person

If you wish to vote an absentee ballot in the clerk’s office, bring acceptable photo ID to the Town Hall on Wednesday March 27, 2024 from 5-7pm..  The municipal clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before Election Day to the Town Hall to be counted before the polls close on April 2, 2024. Any ballots received after the polls close will not be counted.
